The capital of the island, Saint Martin de Ré is a must see during your stay. The citadel was built between 1681 and 1685 by Marshal Vauban, engineer, military architect and planner of King Louis XIV.

The magnificent star shape fortification of 14 km was built to protect the population from enemy attacks and is listed UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. The citadel was turned into a prison in the nineteenth century.

From the steeple of the church, admire the splendid view of the city and the harbor. Then, an expert will guide you through the narrow streets of Saint Martin.
