The fort bearing testimony to our history was in the most exposed position of the whole island and kingdom but has been forgotten for a long time.

Built in 1673, it is the fi rst geographical system of the island. Associated with the other forts of Chef de Baie and Aix and Oléron islands, it protected the new military port of Rochefort.
