
An ecomuseum devoted to history and traditions of Île de Ré.
A visit full of flavours from the islands on four levels of exhibition:
> Origin of the island and vestiges of the Châteliers Abbey (12th C.), activities : scale models of sailing boats, fishing, agriculture.
> Headdresses, costumes Rétais interior with period furniture, an outstanding collection of photos of Rétais people taken at the beginning of last century.
> Links island-mainland (from the ferry to the bridge)
> Oyster-farming : "from wildoysters to modern oyster-farming"
> Exhibition July-August 2007 : "Atlantic sails : traditional boats from the coasts of Gironde, Charente, Vendée" - workshops for children (scale models and painting on pebbles)
> Hare and hounds for kids a ludic discovery of the museum (for children aged 5 and over) + children’s play area (games, colourings, books).

From April to All Saint French school holidays Monday to Friday : 10.30am - 12.30pm / 2 - 6pm
Closed in October except holidays. Out of season by prior arrangement for groups.
