
The Hôtel de Clerjotte houses the most beautiful civil architecture of Île de Ré - the museum Ernest Cognacq - which is extending and modernising.
An exceptional temporary exhibition - "Itinerary of a Utopia" - retraces the history of these convicts who left the citadel of Saint Martin and sailed to Guyana or New Caledonia. The visitor discovers these singular destinies thanks to sound effectambiances, unpublished archive films, photos and convicts'works, and also conductedtours, reading sessions of texts, and workshops for children.
