From April 4th of 2009 to March 15th of 2010, the Museum Ernest Cognacq proposes you to “Coast Off the Mooring Ropes!”.
This new exhibition approaches the life conditions on board on the XVIIIth century’s vessels.
It’s the occasion to discover or rediscover several elements of the Museum Ernest Cognacq’s collections, but also those from many museums specialists in maritime history.
The visitor is invited to immerse himself into this time’s atmosphere and to confront with the “dog’s life” the crew had to endure between fights, boredom, superstition, malnutrition and diseases…
At the end of the exhibition, the visitor can discover the museum’s gardens restored in October 2007, where a George Washington’s statue, descendant of a “rétais”, occupies a place of honor.
A little bit of patience will be required before discovering, in the Hôtel de Clerjotte, listed Historical Monument, the whole collection in a new museographic space. By that time, the museum’s team proposes to its visitors several commented visits of the exhibition. You will find also many animations and a varied cultural programmation. Laureate of the Prize “Des Musées Pour Tous”, the Museum Ernest Cognacq has also obtained the Label “Tourisme et Handicap” for handicapped.
