Ars-en-Ré is the perfect village for an outing, whether on foot or by bike.
Don't forget your camera!
There's always something going on here. Wander through the alleyways, explore the trails along the rugged coastline, walk along by the Fier (a large saltwater bay) and the marshes, keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked up and let the birdsong carry you along. Meander through the harbour and along the channel docks, and admire the boats as they come and go. Carry on over the newly reconstructed Boutillon dam, a 700-metre space with incredible views out over the sea. Not far away, Foirouse fish sluice is revealed at low tide. The old windmills around the village also provide a dreamlike setting. And after a long walk, why not have a pampering session at the Thalassotherapy Centre?
For sports fans, the sailing school is an instituition here at Ars-en-Ré; many great seafarers started their voyages here! And tennis and mini-golf remain popular generation after generation. If you like horseriding, you can explore hidden trails, the forest and the beach thanks to the riding stables at Les Petites Écuries du Marais. If mountain biking is more your thing, La Caverne du Clocher will introduce you to the Fat Bike. You can also go on a sea voyage with a jet ski trip or a day cruise on a Chinese junk. And rest assured that all our activities are organised with the greatest respect for the environment. Meanwhile, there are a number of creative courses on offer for budding artists.
