Shopping and facilities at Ars
Take a trip into the salt lands and visit the salt workers' cooperative, which you can find at the producer Esprit du Sel or the shop Les Salicorniers au Martray. Here, you can buy the precious "white gold", which is bursting with vitamins. Have you heard of Confitures du Clocher jams? They have won many local awards. Ars-en-Ré loves local produce, and you can buy directly from the producers themselves. There are numerous market stands teeming with flavours and fragrances, each more mouth-watering than the last: fish, oysters, seafood, meats, delicatessen, wines, cheeses, salami… In summer the market is near the port, while in winter it is held on the church square. As well as food stalls, there are also many tempting clothes and decorations on offer.
Every summer, the market is transformed for the Donin fair, another local institution. For over 20 years, enraptured bands of children have flocked here. The little Pascal carousel on the church square proves popular year after year.
Meanwhile, plant lovers will enjoy a visit to the Ars-en-Ré tree nurseries. You'll receive expert advice to help you choose your perfect plant according to your tastes and lifestyle. The convenience store is open all year round for food and petrol supplies.
