Les Portes-en-Ré

The nature reserve Lilleau des Niges

Welcome to the Portes-en-Ré, between ocean, salt marshes and forests.

this charming village opens its doors and offers its relaxed lifestyle, authenticity and warm relations with its inhabitants. Located at the far end of the island which makes its uniqueness and charm, the village is revealed in a unspoilt nature and wild.

Forget your car during your stay let yourself be charmed by foot or bicycle, by the preserved nature at the outskirts of the village. Enjoy your time on its sandy beaches or dream in the "Petit bois de Trousse Chemise", sung by Charles Aznavour. Unless you prefer to discover the fauna and flora. In this privileged and protected place, benefiting from exceptional sunshine, the numerous bicycle paths allow you to enjoy the true nature and cross the ornithological reserve "Lilleau of Niges".

Young and old will love having fun on the gently sloping beaches, and sport enthusiasts will appreciate the pleasures of sea:  fishing, swimming, sailing, surfing, kite surfing, windsurfing  or  golf, tennis, horse riding and pétanque ... But this particular universe between sea and forests should not make you forget the heart of our village.

Let your steps lead you randomly through the flowered alleys that provide surprising discoveries of the small heritage. And do not miss the daily market during season on Place de la Liberté where you will find all the delights of the island of Ré: AOC potatoes, Trousse Chemise oysters, salt, jams and many other pleasures for your taste buds.

The light and the colors that are found across the salt marshes have inspired many painters.
