With its many uncommonly beautiful beaches, the village of Les Portes-en-Ré is especially good for bathing and watersports, including kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, paddle-boarding… The children's beach at Gros-Jonc has instilled a lifelong love of the sea in many a young holidaymaker. Meanwhile, their parents and older siblings can head to the Les Portes-en-Ré watersports club, which has something to suit all tastes and skill levels.

Les Portes-en-Ré is also a haven for birds. There are many passionate Bird Protection League members in the area who will be eager to share their specialist knowledge of our feathered friends. La Maison du Fier organises various trips to discover the birds and plants of the marshland. Visits to the Lilleau des Niges Nature Reserve are also occasionally organised.  And don't forget the marked hiking routes: wander through the alleyways, try the salt marsh trail, or stroll along the river or the beach. Or go in search of the village wells, recently restored, which tell of daily village life in times gone by.

There is also a unique opportunity to try golf at Les Portes-en-Ré, near the Fier d’Ars. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the village's nine-hole course, which has several memorable challenges. And in the forest, you'll find the Bout de l’Ile Tennis Club. Pick up your rackets and enjoy the conivial sporting spirit!
