Loix, a "Cittaslow" village blessed with a calm pace of life
Inhabitants of this local village on the Ile de Ré really do live the good life. There are food shops open every day on the market square near the church: butchers, fishmongers, bakeries, fine delicatessens. You'll find a charming little market here all year round, both under the covered market and out on the square: treat yourself to fine seasonal produce or Ile de Ré specialities, buy flowers, find a little gift for yourself or a loved one, or just wander round and take it all in. Once you've finished at the market, children will love riding on the Carrousel de Dominique, which is a Loix institution.
The Loix artisan village has been booming for some years now. It's a second hub of activity where you can discover shops, services, artists, artisans, a soap works, a hardware store, a launderette, an antiquarian bookshop, a beauty salon, hairdresser, and even a lawyer's office. A new "co-working space" is also due to open its doors.
