Sainte-Marie-de-Ré

The city of Sainte-Marie-de-Ré

Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, a softness to share...

As soon as you cross the bridge, you will see the steep tip of the bell tower of Sainte-Marie-de-Ré which will guide you to the south side of the island. Sainte-Marie de-Ré is one of the oldest villages of the island, its construction goes back to the medieval times. Its character, affirmed by its rurality, makes it a preserved and authentic place. A wise resolution arriving at Sainte Marie, «abandon» your car. Here everything is more peaceful and beautiful on foot or by bike, especially in summer!

Between sea and vineyards, Sainte-Marie-de-Ré welcomes you all year round: warm traders in Antioch and Tilleuls places, daily markets, quality craftsmen, a rich offer of accommodation, a recognized thalassotherapy center... Various animations and activities are proposed during the seasons: gourmet evenings, concerts, second-hand trade, the sea festival, storytelling visits... Enjoy the old houses of vine growers, cellars, church and chapels, miller’s house and walled gardens witnesses of rural, historical and cultural heritage.

And of course, the sea... A wild and changing coastline, magnificent in all seasons, well suited for swimming, surfing but also for walking along the coastal path, shore fishing (reasonable) or simply the contemplation of waves, birds and sunsets...  Far from the world. Here you will take your time...
