The beaches in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré
On the West coast of the lle de Ré, visit the four fine sandy beaches of Sainte-Marie-de-Ré. Montamer beach is supervised. La Salée and La Basse Bénale have a faithful band of followers who return to their long stretches of sand again and again. Meanwhile, Port Notre-Dame is located opposite the Thalassotherapy Centre. Bathing is always fun at high tide, while at low tide, the coast reveals its rocks and numerous fish sluices (there are eight of them in all around the village). So bathing is only possible at high tide, but at low tide, you can go and catch fish or explore the peculiarities of this rocky, sandy, muddy foreshore. Walk along amongst the many birds that come here to feast on the seaweed.
To the North of Sainte-Marie-de-Ré and the village of La Noue, you'll find Les Grenettes, a surfing spot famous for the height of its waves.
