The Ernest Cognacq Museum is a must toexplore the history of the island. From art collections and historical documents to archaeological findings and decorative art painted by the prisoners, follow the development of an insular flourishing economy based on the wine and salt trade and the growth of ship-owners and traders. Boat models, ceramics, navigation objects are on display on the ground floor dedicated to maritime life.
The building remained an arsenal until the 20th century. In 1929, it was designated as a historical monument, and, after some service for the Navy, was given to the City, which transformed it into a Museum.
