Why do we get involved?
Digital technology is not immaterial: every page consulted, every image loaded and every query requires resources.
At our level, we can act on several levers:
- Optimising code, media and resources to reduce the energy required to display a web page.
- Extend the lifespan of the site and avoid unnecessary major overhauls.
- Choose more responsible hosting, with a committed data centre.
- Limit the number of scripts, cookies and marketing tools to reduce the overall weight of the site.
These best practices are part of our web agency’s eco-design approach (file compression, image optimisation, lazy-loading, font limitation, browser cache, CDN, etc.).
Optimisations already in place on iledere.com
We are gradually working to improve the site’s performance and sobriety. Some technical optimisations are already underway:
Optimising page loading
- Compression and minification of files (HTML, CSS, JS).
- Browser cache and server cache to limit repetitive requests.
- Lazy-loading of images and videos to reduce energy consumption.
- Prioritising the loading of scripts required for display (unloading non-essential scripts).
Media optimisation
- Progressive conversion of images to lightweight formats (WebP).
- Automatic adjustment of images according to screen type (mobile, tablet, desktop).
- Reduction in the number of fonts to limit page weight.
More responsible hosting
The site is hosted by OVHcloud, a French company committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its data centres (average PUE of 1.28, lower than the global average).
A scalable site to avoid over-consumption
One of the major challenges of digital sobriety is to avoid frequent complete overhauls. The technology used for iledere.com means that :
- update the site regularly
- add new features without rewriting the whole site,
- to separate content and form so that the design can evolve without having to rebuild the whole site.
This logic of continuous evolution, shared with our web agency, extends the life of the site and reduces the resources needed to maintain it.
An integrated accessibility module
In parallel with the technical work, an accessibility module has been added temporarily to improve the comfort of all visitors, pending the full RGAA audit. Thanks to the small yellow pictogram at the top of the site, you can :
- reinforce contrasts
- adjust line spacing
- activate a dyslexia-friendly font,
- remove justification from texts,
- replace certain images with text.

Our commitments for the coming months
The continuous improvement of iledere.com’s environmental impact is based on several upcoming projects:
A full eco-design and performance audit
An RGESN (Référentiel Général d’Éco-Conception de Services Numériques) audit will be carried out to precisely identify areas for improvement.
Reducing marketing tracking and tracing
As recommended in the memo (reduction of marking plans, limitation of third-party cookies), we will be working on streamlining the analysis scripts.
Simplification of the DOM and optimisation of components
Lighter code = faster site = less energy used.
Working with a responsible web host
Continuation of our partnership with a data centre committed to reducing its emissions.
Contributing to local carbon projects
We are considering joining local initiatives.
EcoIndex test results : a starting point for progress
To assess iledere.com’s current environmental impact, we carried out a test using the EcoIndex tool developed by GreenIT.fr. The score obtained was an E, confirming the need for further optimisation.
Results as at 4 December 2025:
- EcoIndex: 34.50
- Estimated water consumption: 3.47 cl
- GHG emissions: 2.31 gCO₂e
- Number of requests: 18
- Weight of page tested: 4,158 Kb (including 700 Kb compressed)
- DOM size: 2,538 elements
These indicators are a snapshot of the existing situation. We use them to prioritise improvement projects, in line with the reporting stages recommended by GreenIT.fr.
Note E 1Where do we go from here?
This score does not reflect the overall approach taken, but rather an initial state. The actions already launched – media optimisation, script reduction, DOM improvement, delayed loading, more sober hosting – are intended to gradually improve this score, with new measures planned after each optimisation phase.
Our aim: to significantly reduce the site’s environmental impact, improve display performance and move towards a more sober experience for everyone.
A local, concrete and progressive commitment
As a tourist destination, we have a special responsibility to provide reliable, accessible and environmentally-friendly information.
Our objective is clear: to make iledere.com a high-performance, inclusive and ecologically more responsible site, without compromising the wealth of information available to visitors and service providers.
The process is ongoing and will continue to evolve. Every optimisation counts and so does every user feedback.
