The Club des jeunes aînés invites you to its next Magayant talk
Exceptionally this month, the Senior Citizens' Club is offering two events: the first took place on Monday afternoon, November 3rd, and the second will be held on November 24th.
On November 3rd, Hugues and Pierrette Wallerand chose to screen three films retracing trips taken about ten years ago by the seniors to the Charente and Vendée regions. The first destination, narrated and filmed by Pierrette, the club's president, and her husband, was Angoulême and its 16th-century Renaissance castle, still owned by the La Rochefoucauld family. Four kilometers away, a visit to the Moulin du Verger in Puymoyen offered a glimpse into over 450 years of Charente papermaking tradition.
The second outing, in 2018, took the group from Île de Ré to Luçon to discover one of the department's largest monuments, the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral, with its spire reaching a height of 85 meters. The walk continued through the Jardin Dumaine and south of the Vendée bocage. The final film recounted a bucolic outing to Lake Mervent in 2013, followed by a visit to the medieval town of Vouvant and its legend of Mélusine.
A postponed talk
Paulette Comes usually takes over with the Magayant talk, showing videos, photos, and documents on environmental, heritage, and, new this season, geological topics. However, due to a technical issue, she was unable to present the planned topic on fishing and the protection of the Île de Ré foreshore, which will be offered at a future session.
This afternoon was also dedicated to Annie Gressier, who passed away in June, and who had organized and participated in numerous trips with the S.M. association.
