The Assandra vocal ensemble is delighted to present vocal and instrumental works by Claudio Monteverdi.
From Mantua to Venice, at the dawn of the 17th century, he revolutionised music by transforming the very essence of singing. His collection Selva Morale e Spirituale is Claudio Monteverdi's musical testament: following Vespers of the Blessed Virgin, a collection published in 1610, Monteverdi composed numerous pieces for the religious service at St Mark's Basilica in Venice. Published in 1641, two years before the death of the man known as the ‘Oracle of Music’ or ‘Light and Pride of our Century’, this new collection brings together almost all of the works composed by Monteverdi between 1610 and 1640. We invite you to listen to his most beautiful motets and instrumental pieces.
