Lecture: Unexpected tombs on the Île de Ré bear witness to exchanges with the Nordic world.
On the La Flotte site, the excavation carried out at the end of 2024 by Inrap archaeologists, on the orders of the Drac Nouvelle-Aquitaine, has brought to light medieval remains that attest to vast trade networks in the early Middle Ages between the Nordic world and the Atlantic coast. Around fifty burials are located around and inside a chapel, which could be that of the Sainte-Eulalie priory.
