This walk around Saint-Martin de Ré, whose fortifications and port are classified as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO), will allow you to explore its ramparts, to cross the Barbette park and to stop off at the Cible beach.

    When you leave the Visitor Centre, turn left onto Rue Emile Atgier and walk 40 metres (mini golf course and toilets on the street).
    Continue straight ahead for 80 metres, cross the road and take the small limestone path opposite in Barbette Park. Turn right and walk 50 metres.
    Continue straight ahead for 30 metres to find a playground (slides, swings, etc.) and continue along the small limestone path for 90 metres.
    Turn left (be careful, this path is shared with bicycles), walk 50 metres to reach Avenue Bouthillier.
    Cross the pedestrian crossing and turn left onto the path towards the citadel for 200 metres.
    Cross the citadel enclosure (380 metres) to the small white footbridge. Cross it and continue straight ahead for 20 metres (on the right, below, there is a City Park and two volleyball courts).
    Continue along this route, following the small path that goes around La Cible beach (there is a playground, picnic tables and toilets) for 220 metres.
    Turn right towards the Porte de Toiras and follow the small path on the right for 650 metres (watch out for bumps caused by the roots of the maritime pines
    !).
    Turn right to reach the Porte de Toiras gate 300 metres away (be careful, as the path is shared with bicycles).
    Continue for 160 metres, following the path that branches off to the right and runs alongside a tall, long wall.
    At the intersection after this tall wall, cross over and take the small path on the left for 80 metres.
    Turn left onto Rue du 4ème Zouave and follow it for 150 metres.
    Turn right onto Rue des Gabaret to return to your starting point in front of the Saint-Martin-de-Ré tourist office, using the protected crossing on the
    right (distance 300 metres) .
