The route proposed here is an opportunity to discover the heart of Portes-en-Ré.
Its typical wells, such as the Tourette well, its flower-filled alleyways, its old railway station, passing by the unique Saint-Eutrope church and Jean Monnet's house. Another key stop on this itinerary is Gros Jonc beach with its magnificent view of the Pertuis Breton and the Vendée coastline. Enjoy your walk!
  • Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
    1. Start from the car park at the Salle des Marais de la Prée. Turn left onto Rue de Trousse Chemise and walk for 350 metres. Along the way, you will come across the most photographed well in the village, the Puits de la Tourette.
    2. Turn left onto the charming Rue des Bergeronnettes and follow it for 250 metres.
    3. Turn right onto Rue de la Grenette and follow it to the junction with Rue de la Grenouillère, 200 metres away.
    4. Take Rue de la Grenouillère on the left for 50 metres. At the crossroads, follow Rue Villeneuve on the right. Continue straight ahead for 250 metres until you reach the old Tortillard train station.
    5. Turn right onto Rue du Printemps to return to the centre of the village (distance 400 metres).
    6. Turn left to discover Place de la Liberté and Saint-Eutrope Church, located 50 m away. Continue straight ahead along Rue de la Grande Venelle for 130 m.
    7. Turn right onto Rue de la Paix and continue for 140 m, passing in front of the house of Jean Monnet, considered one of the Fathers of Europe.
    8. Turn left onto the winding Rue des Égaux and follow it for 130 m.
    9. Turn right onto Rue du Clos and follow it for 100 m. At the end of this street, you will see an old restored windmill.
    Turn right onto Ruelle du Moulin and follow it for 200 m.
    10. Turn left onto Rue du Gros Jonc and you will arrive at the beach of the same name (distance 500 m). Magnificent view of the Pertuis Breton and the Vendée coastline.
    11. Retrace your steps for 100 m and turn left onto Promenade de la Mer (children's playground, rest area,
    boules court) and follow it for 100 m.
    12. Turn right onto Rue des Tennis and continue for 80 m. Turn left onto Rue des Cytes and continue for 220 m to
    reach Rue de Trousse-Chemise. Turn right onto Rue de Trousse-Chemise and continue for 250 m to reach the car park at your starting point.
