Come and admire the Baleineaux lighthouse
The Baleineaux lighthouse was built between 1849 and 1853, like the Baleines lighthouse, with which it goes hand in hand, to take over the function of the ineffective Baleines tower, which failed to prevent shipwrecks despite numerous repairs. But unlike the Baleines lighthouse, the Baleineaux lighthouse is built in the open sea, 3 km from the coast, on the rocks of what are known as the Hauts Bancs du Nord. As a result, it was only possible to build the foundations of the semaphore at low tide, and only during high tides: a few hours a year at best. To avoid a considerable delay, it was decided to reduce the original 50 m height to 31 m.

Listed as a historic monument since 2012, the lighthouse has a range of 11 nautical miles, or around 20 km.

The Baleineaux lighthouse cannot be visited, but you can see it from the coast, or from the top of the Baleines lighthouse.
