Come and admire the Maison de Hurle-Vent, Suzy Solidor's former home
This pink house, which can be seen along the road in Les Portes-en-Ré, was part of a group of outbuildings of an old mill acquired in 1939 by the music-hall singer, actress and novelist Suzy Solidor. She renovated the house and had it painted pink. Formerly known as the demeure du Roc, the complex, which included a mill, was built around 1480 so that its owner could look after his salt marshes as closely as possible. In the singer's day, the Hurle-Vent mansion hosted numerous celebrity receptions, establishing the reputation of Les Portes-en-Ré among actors, politicians and artists alike.
Today, the house continues to be inhabited and is therefore not open to visitors.
