Come and admire the statue of the Vierge de la Morande
This one stands out for its more grandiloquent appearance than some other statues of the Virgin. This is because it's a representation of her, painted in white and blue, but supported by four colonnettes whose tops represent vines, a reminder of the village's main agricultural activity at one time. The whole is installed on a circular space in front of the statue, filled with flowers and other plants, which was previously paved and empty.
We know that this work dates from 1862, as indicated by an inscription on the left-hand stack. It was also erected by a certain M. Papot, deputy of La Noue, an indication also engraved at the top of the south face of the stack.
In fact, when we talk about La Noue, it's worth noting that the statue marked the boundary between the two villages of Sainte-Marie and La Noue. At the time of its construction, there were no houses here, and it stood in the middle of nature. According to numerous sources, it was also created in memory of a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame, which was destroyed during the Wars of Religion around 1575; it would have been built where the chapel stood.
