TAKING THE ÎLE DE RÉ BRIDGE
Since 1988, Ile de Ré has been linked to La Rochelle by a 3km bridge.
The bridge is open 24/7.
An environmental tax was established on 1/1/2012, replacing the existing toll, and is attributed to the defence and management of threatened natural areas on the island, and the organisation of clean transport. As a result, holiday-makers and day-trippers contribute to the preservation of the island’s natural environment - an essential feature of the island’s charm - and where construction is unauthorised on 80% of the land.
There is a fee for crossing the bridge with any motorised vehicle including scooters over 50m3, motorbikes, cars, motorhomes, buses and heavy vehicles. The toll gate is on the mainland in the small town of Le Belvédère. The return crossing is free and there is no toll gate. The crossing fee includes a return trip: to Ile de Ré, and back to La Rochelle.
Season passes can be bought in the building before the toll gate. The office is open every day from 5.30am to 9.30pm.
