It was in 1875 that the fire of this flagship house, the last in Charente-Maritime, was finally lit to meet the needs of access to the proud of Ars.
-
Nestled in the Trousse Chemise wood, the Maison-Phare was built to secure navigation in the Fier d’Ars thanks to a lantern visible up to 20 km away. It was assisted by a downstream light located 230m away near the access path to the beach.
Now restored by the Association for the Protection of the Small Heritage of Portes-en-Ré, the A4P, it houses semi-permanent exhibitions on the climate, the ocean and the preservation of the coasts.

Two other exhibitions to see: the history of the lighthouse and Gueules de Ré the caricatures of La Fruche.
Open: July 5 to August 31, Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
