The Ile de Ré bridge, a link between La Rochelle and Rivedoux-Plage and Ré
Inaugurated in 1988 after fifteen to twenty months of construction work, the bridge on the Ile de Ré is 2,926.5 metres long, making it the second longest in France after the bridge at Saint-Nazaire. Thanks to the bridge, the island is now supplied with electricity and water via cables and pipes in the bridge deck.

A few figures:

- 28 piers: 3 on the beach on the Île de Ré side, 23 at sea and 2 on the rock on the La Rochelle side
- 4 navigable passages offering a minimum air draught of 30 m
- 796 voussoirs, prefabricated segments used to rebuild the bridge between each pier. They are joined together using prestressing.
- Around 54,000 m³ of concrete and 7,300 tonnes of steel
- 1,100 linear metres of foundation piles.

The Ile de Ré bridge is not just a technical feat. Its silhouette testifies to the care taken to integrate the structure into the coastal landscape as a distinctive feature.

Comprising a two-way carriageway, it also has a cycle path on the north side and a pedestrian walkway on the south side.
