Inaugurated in 1988 after fifteen to twenty months of construction work, the bridge on the Ile de Ré is 2,926.5 metres long, making it the second longest in France after the bridge at Saint-Nazaire. Thanks to the bridge, the island is now supplied with electricity and water via cables and pipes in the bridge deck.
