This mill, built between the XIVᵉ and XVIIᵉ centuries, was used to grind, but also to cause what are known as ‘chasses’ which enabled the harbour to be cleaned of mud, and to manage the passages to the south and the Ile de Ré, being the only place through which to pass. Hence its other name, Moulin à marée du passage.
