Discover the old Sablanceaux pier
Built on the site of two old pontoons, one made of wood and the other of reinforced concrete and iron, the new pier was built in 1940 during the Second World War at the request of the German army. Also made of reinforced concrete and scrap iron, it was designed to accommodate the vehicles that would leave the requisitioned ferries to transport goods and passengers. When the war ended, the pier continued to be used for another 43 years before being replaced by the bridge in 1988.
You can take a walk on it and go all the way to the end to fish, admire the view of the bridge, the commercial port of La Pallice or the few cruise ships that call at La Rochelle, or even dolphins on very rare occasions.
